Drought plays a role in much of our outdoor activities including fishing, hunting, and other recreational activities and it affects our fish and wildlife resources. During drought season the fire danger rises and some of our FWP resources may be closed or restricted. As part of the John D. Dingell. Jr. Conservation, Management, and Recreation Act of , congress designated San Rafael Swell Recreation Area (approximately , acres). The San Rafael Swell Recreation area features magnificent badlands of brightly colored and wildly eroded sandstone formations, deep canyons, and giant plates of stone tilted upright through massive geologic upheaval.

Review for numerous forms of outdoor recreation, conservation and historic preservation activities. Due to limited data, it was not possible to account for all economic contributions from these activities. An accounting is presented here of the known activities presented in this report, which can be considered a minimum estimate: Jobs = million.

Interestingly, this disparity across racial and ethnic groups is not reflected in an annual national survey by the outdoor recreation industry. The survey, which covers a wide variety of outdoor activities, including mountain biking, fishing, camping, and much more, finds that overall participation rates for Hispanics, whites, and Asian Americans are around the same at 50 percent, all higher.
